Arthritis Can Be Helped Through Meditation

There are many patients across the world suffering from arthritis and they are known to have bouts of depression. Most would suffer silently and not speak to their physicians about it, say doctors who help patients with arthritis. According to a recent study which was published, it is said that around eleven percent of those suffering from arthritis have symptoms of depressions, which can be from moderate to severe. This is surely an alarm bell ringing for those who study the correlation between depression and arthritis, say experts.
In the same study it was noticed that only one patient in five who suffer from arthritis along with depression would have the courage or muster to speak it with their physicians. Patients, who did speak, did so proactively and it wasn’t provoked by the doctors. However, many patients say, when the discussion did happen, mostly the doctors wouldn’t speak long or in depth about the same.
The reason why the doctors wouldn’t speak of the relation between arthritis and depression at length is because they focused more on the illness of the body and not the illness of the mind, say experts. However, it shouldn’t be ruled out that to get the patient recover soon and to stay healthy, the mind has to be cleansed and most are looking at meditation to give the patient mental relief from the pangs of arthritis.
It is well known that arthritis can affect the mentality of a being, depression does affect the way a patient would react to the treatment given to him or her says a source. Most patients suffering from arthritis would visit their rheumatologist more often than their general physicians and hence it is recommended that the doctors be alert and screen patients well to know if they are suffering from pangs of depression or are showing signs for the same.
In most cases, patients suffering from arthritis, suffer mentally to a larger extent than what one would when they have joint pains or inflammation, says a source. When you live with the chronic ailment, it can take a toll on you mentally, much more than what physical pains can be or do. Meditation thus helps program the mind to think of happy thoughts and to be grateful for the present, than to think about the unending pains at the joints that one has to live with, says a source.
In a recent study with sixty patients, it was shown that those who underwent arthritis treatment and along with it took up meditation to keep their minds free, were able to better focus on the issue at hand, than to be delved in worrisome ways of the future, says a source. Meditation has helped many find grounding and allowed them to overcome the distress and pains they have mentally, say doctors.
Hence we can safely conclude and say, while doctors look at problems related to arthritis and find ways to overcome it, one cannot rule out the fact that meditation actually has helped allow an individual come out of the pain sooner by alleviating his thoughts and by allowing him to live a mentally stabled life at the end of the day.
